Sale Day

Keep the family pets inside or safely in the back yard.

You will almost certainly have earlybirds - people who come before the advertised start time. If you couldn't set up an earlier day, give yourself plenty of time to set up so you're ready well before the advertised start time. If you advertised 'no early birds,' stick to it.

Display special items, like antiques and collectables, so they are obvious.

Be friendly and polite. Greet people as they arrive. Let them know you are available for their questions. And be available. Don't bury yourself in a book, or on the phone, or catching up with friends. Save that all for later.

Sell. Let people know about items personally. Let them know how much you enjoyed the picnic basket or jacket.

Don't take any price offers personally, no matter how far below what you would consider reasonable. Haggle.

If an item that people look at isn't selling, consider lowering the price.

Be prepared to discuss discount prices for a combined purchase of items. After all, a single sale of a bunch of items is easier than a separate sale/purchaser for each item.

Offer lemonade. Sell cookies. Or better yet, keep your kids busy selling cookies.

As you near the end of the sale, place inexpensive sale items in the free box.
